Professor Ping Zhao, born in Jiangsu Province in December, 1963, graduated in the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, the University of Science and Technology of China in 1986, and received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Geology, CAS in 1993. Between November 1988 and July 1989, Zhao attended the Geothermal Exploration Course at the International Institute for Geothermics at Pisa, Italy. In 1991, he took part in the United Nations University Geothermal Training Programmme in Iceland. As a visiting scholar, he learned noble gas geochemistry in the Berkeley National Lab of US in 2000. His geothermal activities are focused mainly on Tibet and Yunnan Province. Entering Tibetan plateau 8 times for research expedition, Zhao also participated in a scientific investigation team to depopulated area in the northern Tibet in 2002. In cooperation with colleagues, Zhao has published one book and more than 30 academic papers. As a deputy director of the institute, he is now in charge of the managements of finance, capital construction, international cooperation and state-owned assets.
